Abstract

755,579. Pneumatic separators. KELLER, GES. July 30, 1954 [Aug. 1, 1953 ; Feb. 22, 1954; Feb. 26, 1954; April 9, 1954], No. 22337/54. Class 117. [Also in Group XIII] In apparatus for the continuous drying of material of varying suspension capacity, such as wood waste, in an ascending gas current [Group XIII] the material being supplied in countercurrent, hot gas is drawn through a screen 8 by the action of a fan 1 and the wet material, fed centrally into the chamber 4 through a bucket wheel 46, is distributed by a slowly rotating stirrer 10 having vanes 11 and consisting of four arms 18 fixed on a hollow shaft 19 through which cool air passes to cool the bearings 20, 21. Lighter dried material is carried in suspension into separator 23 while coarse material remaining on the screen is ejected by the stirrer through lateral openings 14 into a container 17. In a modification the coarse material is sorted into different secondary containers. In another modification a discharge lock for the coarse material, the feed lock of the wet material and the stirrer mechanism are driven from a common source or the shaft 19 also drives a feed screw conveyer. In a further modification the gas discharged from the drier is supplied via a separator to preliminary driers from which the coarse material remaining is fed into the final drier. In a still further modification, Fig. 6, moist material is fed through lock 71 into drying chamber 72, gas heated by heat exchanger 85 being supplied thereto and the coarse material being ejected by stirrer 76 through opening 77 and pipe 78 into final drier 79 which is supplied with gas heated by heat exchanger 86. The stirrers 76, 83 have a common shaft and the dried coarse material is discharged through lock 84. In Fig. 8 the discharged drying gas from a drying chamber 104 is drawn by a fan 105 into a separator 106, and then passes through a vibrating sieve 107 on which moist material is initially heated before passing to the drier.
