Abstract
566,170. Drying apparatus. FISON. F. J., and CHIVERS & SONS, Ltd. Aug. 18, 1942, No. 11598. [Class 34 (ii)] Powdered or finely divided material to be dried is carried upwards by a current of hot air through one or more zig-zag passages 2 surrounded by a heating jacket 1 supplied with hot air or steam. Air heated by steam coils 7 is forced or drawn into the bottom of the passages 2 by a fan, and the material is supplied from a hopper 4 to the hot air inlet conduits 3 by gravity, by mechanical means or by the injector action of the hot air currents. The dried material passes through a cyclone or porous bag separator 9 and falls into a discharge bin 12. Two or more zig-zag passages arranged side by side may be connected in series and the supplies of steam or hot air to different parts of the jacket around the passages may be separately controlled.
