Abstract

830,470. Drying apparatus. PROCTOR & SCHWARTZ Inc. Jan. 16, 1957 [Jan. 17, 1956], No. 1592/57. Class 34(2) Granular &c. material to be dried is fed by a conveyer 28 into a stream of hot air generated by a blower 22 discharging through a heater 23 into a duct 21 from which the air, together with the untrained material, passes through the rectangularshaped outlet 25 of the duct tangentially into a whirling chamber 15 discharging through a nozzle 17 into a drying chamber 11 of relatively large cross-sectional area. The velocity of flow through the nozzle may be from 150 to 800 f.p.s. and the temperature of the air 350‹F. In a modification, the chamber 15 is disposed within the lower part of the drying chamber with its outlet nozzle directed upwardly.
