Abstract

694,109. Drying sand. SLINGSBY & CO., Ltd., W. March 20,1951 [March 31, 1950; Feb. 5, 1951], Nos. 8132/50 and 2793/51. Class 34 (ii) In a method of drying sand or like granular material the damp material is supported by perforate screens 10 which will retain damp material but allow the passage of dry material and a drying medium is directed against the screens so that dry sand falls through the openings into the region containing the drying medium. Sand in a hopper 1 is supported by inclined screens 10 which constitute a flue passage 13 extending across the hopper from an inlet 14 communicating with a furnace 16 via a flue 17, the furnace having an air blower 20. The sand dried by the furnace gases falls through flue 13 into an outlet structure 5 and is discharged through a valve device 9. Instead of heated gases atmospheric air may be blown through flue 13 by a fan. In a modification (Fig. 6) the screens converge to a flue outlet 27 and a furnace 29 with canopy 28 supplies hot gases. In another modification the canopy supplies radiant heat and in a further modification radiant heat is concentrated on to the screen by a reflector.
