Abstract
842,505. Drying apparatus; fluidized beds for heating lengths of material. SMITH & CO. (WHITWORTH) Ltd., F. Feb. 16, 1959 [Feb. 19, 1958; March 31, 1958], Nos. 5364/58 and 10202/58. Classes 34(1) and 64(2) . Fluidized bed apparatus for drying fabrics in long lengths. comprises a zone 3 in which the heated bed particles in a fluidized state ascend and zones 4, 5, in which the particles descend and are reheated by contact with gas or steam-heated walls 6, 7. The fabric is conducted through the zone 3 whilst fluidizing air emanates from chambers 8, 9. The particle flow rate from zones 4, 5 to zone 3 is controlled by adjustable gates 14. In a modification, the fabric enters and leaves at the top of the centre zone passing round a roller at the foot of this zone.
