Abstract

1,062,979. Drying thermoplastic fibres. PROCTOR & SCHWARTZ Inc. Aug. 28, 1964 [Aug. 28, 1963], No. 35281/64. Heading F4G. In apparatus for drying in wrinkle-free condition washed garments G, made of a fabric including at least some thermoplastic fibres, the garments are suspended by hangers H from an endless conveyer C for transport through a drying chamber 30 through which heated and conditioned air is upwardly circulated to cause agitation and ballooning of the garments, the condition of the air being so controlled that its wet bulb temperature is higher than the temperature of the liquid in which the garment was washed and its dry bulb temperature is higher than the wet bulb temperature. The air is conditioned in a chamber 60 connected both to a fan 50 and also to the drying chamber 30 by a manifold 40, and houses a spray unit 70 and steam-heated heating coils 62. A hygrometer 80 is mounted downstream of the fan to measure the wet and dry bulb temperatures of the air and is connected to a control device (not shown) to selectively regulate the amounts of heat and moisture imparted to the air for a given setting of the control device.
