Abstract
In a shrinking machine, particularly for woollen <PICT:0720146/IV (c)/1> <PICT:0720146/IV (c)/2> <PICT:0720146/IV (c)/3> <PICT:0720146/IV (c)/4> fabrics, the material is subjected to a fog or mist in a first closed chamber 2, Fig. 1, and then maintained in an atmosphere of suitably humidity and temperature in a second closed chamber 8. The fabric 4, passed over feed rollers 3 is festooned over driven rollers 5 and passes over further rollers 7, 9 on to piles 10. Air is blown by fan 12 past a spray 14 of hot water and enters the chambers 2 through a grilled floor 6. A part is directed through ducts 15, Fig. 2, into lateral passages 16 and over refrigerating elements 17, the mixture of descending cold air and rising warm air forming a fog in the central part of the chamber. The atmosphere in the second chamber is regulated by controllable vents 11 and outlet vents 19 are provided in the roof of the first chamber. In a modification, Fig. 3 and 4, a regenerative system is employed, the fabric passing over a conveyer belt 24. Fans 12a pass the humid atmosphere into passages 16 and thence over heaters 26 and water troughs 27, or in the case of the rising atmosphere over refrigerating elements 17 or adjustable controls 28.
