Abstract

748,311. Conditioning air. MUNTERS, C. G. Oct. 29, 1953 [Nov. 1, 1952], No. 29879/53. Class 137. [Also in Group XIII] Apparatus for heating one gas by means of another comprises a housing having two separated passages therein for the simultaneous flow of the two gases one through each said passage and through a mass of heat transfer material undergoing movement relative to said passages, the said mass comprising superimposed layers of fine filamentary material, preferably synthetic resin filaments arranged in the form of a network. In the form shown the heat transfer material is arranged as a rotary drum 28. Air., withdrawn by a fan from a room through passage 98, heats or cools the material of the drum in passing thereover to a passage 52 and thence to atmosphere. Fresh air is blown by a further fan through a passage 48 and through the drum material where heat is absorbed or given up and thence through a passage 96 to the room. By closing a damper 102, the flow of fresh air may be stopped so that condensate precipitating in the form of ice may be caused to melt by the escaping warm air of the room, the water being run off through a pipe 118. A filter (not shown) may be arranged in the path of the air currents before they reach the heat transfer material 28. Dimensions relating to the heat transfer material are given.
