Abstract

662,734. Drying apparatus; heating air LEGG, Ltd., R., and SCHREIBER, P. Q. R. Feb. 1, 1949 [Feb. 20, 1948; Dec. 16, 1948], Nos. 5153/48 and 32614/48. Classes 34(ii) and 64(i) Crop drying plant has a framing with tracks C for movable perforated trays D and has a central drying section A over a duct M for hot gases and lateral extensions B B<SP>1</SP> at either side thereof, each forming a loading and unloading station, the trays being coupled together so that movement of a tray into position over the duct brings another tray into position at a loading and unloading station. At one side of the section A is a hcusing E for an oil burner F and fan G, cold air drawn in by the fan being heated and expelled into a chamber H beneath the section A, meeting baffle plates L in the duct M and passing beneath a deflector plate of wide inverted-V form, the apex of which is just below the centre of the tray carrying the crop to be dried, the air passing up through the bottom of the tray.' The axial flow fan G has its axis at right angles to the axis of the combustion chamber which consists of a steel tube T lined with refractory material and closed at one end except for burner nozzle F the tube being mounted in a cylinder E to leave an annular space. Air from the fan, Fig. 4, is caused to circulate around the annular space and travels to the open end of the cylinder where it meets the hot gases from the combustion chamber, the mixture then entering duct M and chamber H. The trays which run on wheels K may be two closely linked trays or a single tray divided into two compartments.
