[Class 51 (ii)] A conveyer oven with direct heating means arranged internally of the oven is provided with means for circulating the oven gases by extracting proportions of the whole from one or more localities of the chamber by means of a fan and reintroducing them in controlled. proportions. The oven is of the tunnel type with a band conveyer 1 traversing the gasheated tunnel 2. Gas burners 3 are distributed throughout the oven, the underside of the conveyer being screened by a screen 4 dividing the chamber longitudinally. In the central region are vertical conduits 5, controlled by dampers 7, adjacent to each side wall opening into the oven at 6, so that the oven gases may be withdrawn from below the screen. Gases may be withdrawn from above the screen through an aperture 10 controlled by a damper 12 ; the gases pass to a collecting box 8 coupled to the suction diameter 18 of a fan by a conduit 17. The outlet 19 from the fan discharges into a conduit 20, having forked portions 21, 22 with a valve flap device 23. The branches are connected to independent trunks 24, 25 arranged longitudinally of the oven adjacent to the roof and fitted with nozzles 26. The trunk 24 as it passes through the collecting box has a raised portion 24a to avoid masking the openings 10 and 5. On the discharge side of the fan a byepass conduit 39, controlled by a damper 41, is provided whereby a proportion of the products of combustion may be discharged to the chimney 40.
