Abstract

579,187. Tunnel ovens. TONGE, H. VJan. 6, 1945, No. 586. [Class 51 (ii)] A method of preventing heat flow through the open ends of a tunnel oven comprises the continuous formation of an air curtain orblanket in or adjacent to the plane of the opening by directing convergent streams from slots in the periphery towards the centre. As shown, the end of the tunnel oven 6 is provided with a silhouette plate 7 on the outside of which a slotted air duct 11 is arranged to emit sheets of air perpendicular to the length of the oven. The discharge of the air may be regulated by means of an adjustable plate 15 with inclined edges 16 which overlap the orifices. The oven may also have means for withdrawing hot airfrom the top of the tunnel and returning it to its lower part. Specification 565,104 is referred to.
