738,345. Drying kilns. WELLS, Ltd., G. F. June 24, 1954 [June 25, 1953], No. 17686/53. Class 34 (2). A kiln for drying timber or other material 12 arranged in stacks or tiers has a drying zone 14 alongside an air heating zone 18 provided with heaters 19 comprising electrical heaters or coils of steam-heated pipes, and a'fan 22 for effecting circulation of the hot air, baffles 21, 24, 27 being provided for determining the circuitous flow of air so that after first passing through a central zone the air flow diverges to enter and return through outer zones or after first passing through the outer zones the air flow converges to return through the central zone. Moist air escapes via duct 33 and fresh air enters through duct 29 and hollow baffles 24. When superheated steam is used as a drying agent, extra electric heating elements 35 are provided. In a modification, the arcuate baflles 21, 27 have vertical axes and the other baffles are vertical, the zones being side by side instead of one above another.
