Abstract

1,149,985. Tunnel driers. SVENSKA FL€KTFABRIKEN A.B. 21 Aug., 1967 [22 Aug., 1966], No. 38387/67. Heading F4G. A tunnel drier for seasoning wood has drying air admitted to an intermediate section 7 of the tunnel, whence it flows in two streams towards the inlet 2 and the outlet, 18, and is recirculated by ducts 10, 11 to the fan 8. Fresh air enters at 16 and moist air is exhausted by a fan 23. The temperature and humidity of the air at the outlet end 18 are maintained constant by wet and dry bulb thermometers 24, 25, which control steam heated elements 12, 13 and a damper 17 which regulates the exhaust of moist air. The apparatus can be arranged to produce rapid drying in the first section (containing stacks of wood 5) and the first part of the second section (containing stacks 6), and slower drying thereafter to prevent cracking of the wood.
