Abstract

A rectangular section drying tunnel particularly for skins has a chamber above the tunnel with a fan in the middle, with ducts extending from each side, directing the flow of air towards a steam heated grid, the air then travelling downwards to enter the side of the tunnel. The flow is periodically reversed, so that hot air travelling down one side is extracted at the other side and fed back towards the middle of the upper chamber, where part of the wet air can be exhausted and replaced by dry air from outside. Another system uses oppositely rotating fans which are reversed periodically. A further system employs swinging flaps to reverse the flow.
