Abstract

694,876. Drying systems. CUBBAGE, L. A. Nov. 8, 1951 [Oct. 30, 1950], No. 26389/50. Class 34 (ii) A drying kiln divided into compartments 10 by walls 10a has a continuous back wall 11, a control room 13 and a front wall 12 and fans 21 in each compartment, the fans being mounted each on a shaft 20 extending transversely across the compartment and the drive to the shaft being taken by pulleys 20a in wells 17 in the dividing walls 10a. Air is delivered by the fans to contact steam heated coils 27 located above a horizontal partition 26 having openings 28 through which the air passes into the lower part of the kiln containing the material to be dried and openings 29 through which the air can leave the lower.part of the kiln. Air enters and leaves the kiln compartments 10 through pairs of vent pipes 31a, 316 passing through the roof of the kiln and arranged one on each side of the fans 21 and in communication with ducts 32a, 32b having dampers operated from the control room 13 by means of a pivoted arm 36 on the damper shaft 37 and operated by a rod 38. Each compartment 10 has a wet and dry bulb thermometer associated with a recorder 40, the water bath 41 being filled via pipe 42 and observations being made through window 44. Steam is supplied to the coils 27 via pipes 14, 15 so that all controls are located in the control room 13.
