Abstract

973,685. Conditioning shoe uppers. R. KLEIN. Feb. 27, 1963 [April 4, 1962], No. 7856/63. Heading A3B. Shoe uppers 3 are steam conditioned in a cabinet or tunnel 1 the inside of the uppers being kept dry by an upward current of air through them from a fan 11 or nozzles, whilst their outsides and a heater 10 are sprayed with water from nozzles 8 having supply pipes 7 which rise through tanks of hot water 4, 5 equipped with immersion heaters 6. The air stream after passing through the uppers is heated by heaters 10 and then deflected down over the outside, i.e. grain side, of the uppers by the casing apex 9. The uppers rest on a table or conveyer 2, e.g. constructed of fabric. In tunnel form spray nozzles 8 and fans 11 are arranged in series while the heating elements 10 extend longitudinally along the whole length of the tunnel.
