Abstract
849,613. Drying apparatus. GRAY, G. A. Oct. 23, 1958 [July 11, 1958], No. 33953/58. Class 34(2) Copra is dried on a screen 5 in a chamber 1 by alternately passing hot air therethrough in the upward and downward directions. The air, which is recirculated is supplied by an air heater 18 either to the spaces beneath or above the screen through respective valve-controlled ducts 19, 15. When the air is passing upwardly the moisture laden air is withdrawn for recirculation through a valve-controlled duct 16a, a controlled amount " bleeding " to atmosphere through all outlet 21 and make-up air being introduced through an inlet 17. The air, after passing down through the copra, is withdrawn for recirculation through a valve-controlled conduit 16b, a " bleed " outlet being provided at 22c. In a modified drier, the duct 15 communicates with the space above the screen through a separate opening in the chamber wall instead of an outlet 20. The chamber 1 has charging covers in the roof 3 and discharging doors 10 in the side wall. To check drying progress thermometers may be mounted in the spaces beneath and above the screen.
