Abstract

699,773. Drying gases. BRITISH OXYGEN CO., Ltd., and WEBSTER, T. J. May 29, 1952 [June 5, 1951], No. 13302/51. Class 34 (i) In gas-drying-apparatus of the type in which the gas is passed downwardly through a bed of granular alumina or other granular adsorbent, regeneration is performed by passing a stream of heated gas introduced at the top of the drier downwardly through the adsorbent passing a second stream of heated gas upwardly through the adsorbent and withdrawingboth streams from the drier at a point intermediate its top and bottom the velocity of the second gas stream being insufficient to lift the adsorbent granules and its length of travel through the bed being sufficient to prevent passage of moisture through the drier. The regeneration gas is fed through inlet 13 to heater 14 and thence through pipes 15, 16, 17 controlled by valves 18, 19 to the upper ends of driers 2, 3 respectively, which driers operate alternately, and through pipes 20, 21, 22 controlled by valves 23, 24 to the lower ends of the driers. The gas is withdrawn through pipes 25, 26 controlled by valves 27, 28. Electric heating coils 29, 30 round the outer surfaces of the driers raise the shells to regeneration temperature and eliminate loss of heat from the gas to the shell.
