Abstract
252,835. Imray, O. Y., (International Combustion Engineering Corporation). March 27, 1925. Gaseous currents, ma. terials carried by. - A method of drying material. particularly coal prior to its pulverization, consists in suspending the material in a current of hot gas to which a whirling motion is imparted and by which the material is both dried and separated from the gas. As shown, the material is fed by a screw-conveyer b into a duct c communicating with a cyclone separator e, the material being entrained in a current of hot gas which is forced through the duct by a fan d. The dried material passes to the pulverizer f, while the gas returns through 'the duct h to the fan inlet pipe i which has branches k, l to the high and low temperature zones of an exhaust flue, such as a boiler flue. The speed of the feedscrew is controlled by the pulverizer. The material may be by-passed through the ducts p to the pulverizer. In a modification the gas after leaving the separator is not re-circulated.
