730,788. Granulating slag. SOC. ANON. DE COMMENTRY - FOURCHAMBAULT & DECAZEVILLE. Nov. 22, 1951 [Nov. 23, 1950], No. 27453/51. Class 82 (2). [Also in Group V] Self-pulverization of slag is accelerated by casting the slag so as to provide a funnel extending through its mass and cooling the mass by the action of air or other cooling gas flowing through the funnel. Molten slag is cast into a vessel 1 resting on a removable bottom 2 which is fast with a core 5, the vessel being provided with a cover 11 and with heatinsulating walls, or being placed in a heated enclosure, or being provided with heating means. When the solidified slag has reached equilibrium, the cover 11 is removed and the heating, if any, discontinued. On cooling, a layer of pulverized material forms adjacent the walls and the bottom 2 and core 5 are then removed and the vessel placed on a grate 10, Fig. 2. An ascending draught rises through the funnel from which the core has been removed; a fan may be provided and air or other gas circulated in open or closed circuit. The bottom 2 and grate 10 may be carried by an aerial conveying system or on a car.
