Abstract

497,041. Transformers. BOMANN, O. June 11, 1937, No. 16311. Convention date, June 11, 1936. [Class 38 (ii)] A tapped transformer has a shell-type core comprising several return limbs 3 surrounding a centre limb 1, and the tappings 4<1> of the regulating winding pass between these return limbs and are arranged to form a helical contact path with which engages a current collector 9. As shown, the regulating winding is built from a number of rings 4 which are slit at 4<11> and edges of adjacent discs joined to form a helical winding. The rings are punched out of sheet-metal so that the turn 4 is integral with the contact segments 41. The primary winding is subdivided, the sections being connected in parallel. The distribution of flux between the return limbs may be controlled by means of auxiliary windings mounted on the return limbs or the yokes. In a modification, the rings 4 have a flanged inner edge which may be formed by a frustoconical shaped piece welded on. In a further modification, the yoke and return core limb may be formed from U-shaped laminations.. The core is formed as a hollow cylinder by metal sheets put together in involute form. A polyphase arrangement is described.
