[Class 38 (ii)] In a shell-type transformer in which leakage bridges St, Fig. 1, are arranged between the primary and secondary windings Pr and Sek to protect against over-loading, the leakage bridges comprise rectangular plates of the same thickness as the two part main laminations and are arranged on both sides of these laminations and perpendicular to the central core. The leakage plates fit into notches formed on the outer limbs i of the divided main laminations and are frictionally held in these notches when the two halves of the main laminations are secured together. These leakage plates iSt, Fig. 3, pass through gaps in the central core between the two halves of the outer laminations while further sets of plates aSt may be arranged to fit in notches in the outer limbs i and to pass outside the central core. The leakage plates may be made of transformer iron, nickel iron, nickel chrome iron, chrome iron, nickel plate, or other alloy different from the material of which the main plates are made. Two shell type transformer cores of the above type may be placed side by side and wound as shown in Fig. 8 to act as a three phase transformer. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also states that the phases of the three phase transformer may be used separately to supply associated devices such as hand lamps or arc welding electrodes.
