Abstract
507,733. Transformers; supply systems. OWEN, F. C. Nov. 12, 1938, No. 32975. [Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv)] In a high reactance transformer for feeding a welding arc for example wherein power factor correction is effected by connecting condensers 15 across the primary or secondary windings 10, 12, the condensers are connected through a normally open electromagnetic switch 16, 17 the closing coil 19 of which is energized by a tertiary winding 18 surrounding the whole transformer core so as to be linked only by leakage flux. Thus the condensers are switched in only when the transformer is under load.
