Abstract
474,781. Transformers. SOC. L'AIR LIQUIDE, SOC. ANON. POUR L'ETUDE ET L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES C. CLAUDE. May 7, 1936, No. 12948. Convention date, Oct. 25, 1935. [Class 38 (ii)] Relates to a variable leakage transformer having a movable winding particularly for use in resistance and are welding and consists in the provision of a core having a curved part 7, Fig. 1, the ends of which are joined by one or more straight parts 4, 8, 9, the moving coil 5 being mounted on the curved part. In the form shown the curved part 7 is semicircular and the moving coil 5 is pivoted to move about the centre 6. The cross-section of the core part 7 may be varied along its length, either continuously or discontinuously, in order to obtain particular regulation effects. In a modification, the moving primary coil 5 may be connected in series with an additional fixed coil mounted on the core part 8. The transformer may also be provided with two or more secondaries. To give additional voltage regulation the windings may be tapped. If desired the moving coil may be flexibly connected to the operating mechanism so that a certain amount of deflection depending on load current can take place. As shown in Fig. 4, the moving coil 24 is mounted on a lever 28 which is connected by a spring 32 to the adjusting spindle 27 by a plate 31. The spring is anchored to a pin in a slot 33 so that adjustment of tension can be effected. A 3-phase to 2-phase arrangement can be formed by means of two of these transformers.
