480,217. Transformers. BORMANN, O. April 1, 1937, No. 9317. Convention date, April 7, 1936. [Class 38 (ii)] Potential regulating apparatus comprises a main tapped transformer and a fine adjustment transformer which is moved along the tappings of the main transformer and has its core 1 subdivided and the winding 2 distributed so that each section of the winding between adjacent taps links only a part of the total flux. In this way on load tapchanging of the fine adjustment transformer can be effected without unduly large shortcircuit currents flowing. To equalize flux distribution over the core parts parallel connected equalizing windings may be provided. In a modification, Fig. 3, the winding 5 is in two parts on cores 1 each having two return flux limbs 1<1>, 1<11>, the winding parts 5 being tapped, alternate tappings being from opposite sides of the windings as shown. In this way the short-circuited half turn of the winding embraces only one of the return flux limbs 1<1> 1<11>. Equalizing windings 5 are provided, and these may be connected to the circuit L<1>, L2. The arrangement may be such that for each complete turn of the regulating switch 3 adjustment of the tappings on the main transformer may be effected.
