Abstract

546,437. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 12, 1941, No. 3355. Convention date, March 14, 1940. [Class 38 (ii)] In a transformer tapchanging arrangement of the kind in which a pair of tapping switches 7 are associated with a centre tapped reactor 6, ar energized winding 8 is inductively coupled tc the reactor 6 whereby there is induced in the reactor a voltage equa to half that betweer taps and of such polarity as to oppose the inter. tap voltage in the loca circuit when the tapping switches are on adjacent taps. Thus whether the tapping switches are on the same or adjacent taps the voltage across the reactor is half the inter-tap voltage. The windings 6, 8 may be arranged to embrace the centre leg of a closed core 11, the winding 6 being arranged to embrace also the air-gapped centre leg of a core 9 whereby the necessary reactance characteristic is obtained.
