Abstract

[Class 38 (ii).] The limbs and yokes of transformer cores are built up from laminations 1, Fig. 1, bent to involute form, the laminations being held together by a tube 3 closely surrounding them. Fig. 5 shows a transformer in which the windings 8, 9 are located in the annular space formed between two hollow core parts 2, 4 constructed as indicated in Fig. 1 and bridged at their ends by yokes 5, 6 similarly formed as indicated in plan in Fig. 6. The laminations forming the yokes may, however, be spaced as shown to provide for circulation of a cooling medium such as oil. In the case of high reactance transformers, the magnetic shunt 17 between the windings may also be formed of coiled sheet iron. A base member 15 having ventilating openings formed therein may be secured to the core by flanges formed on a tubular member extending through the centre of the core. In a polyphase transformer, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), three core limbs similar to the part 2 are clamped between modified yokes. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 163,090, [Class 38 (ii), Electric currents, Converting &c.].
