Abstract
In the manufacture of alternating current rectifiers of the type comprising a body of metal having a compound of the metal formed directly thereon by a process involving a coating step followed by an annealing step at a lower temperature, the blanks are cooled after the coating step to a temperature not exceeding the annealing temperature by more than 25 per cent before they are placed in the annealing furnace. Preferably they are cooled to within a few degrees of the temperature of the annealing furnace. Copper blanks may be oxidized, exposed to cold air for about 1 minute, and then annealed for about 10 minutes. The intermediate cooling is stated to reduce the forward resistance without a corresponding reduction in the reverse resistance.
