Abstract
490,060. Metal - heating furnaces. HALKETT, R., FELLS, H. A., and BROWN, J. Feb. 13, 1937, No. 4327. [Class 51 (ii)] A gasheated furnace for the heat treatment of small tools comprises upper and lower muffles or sleeves A, Ax sealed in the furnace walls and having open fronts in which the toolholder heads T are a close fit. The heads T may be formed with sockets T<3> to receive the tools and be fitted with handles T<1> carrying adjustable shields T<2> which cover the fronts of the sleeves when the furnace is in operation. A single lower sleeve arranged in its own combustion chamber Cx and a number of upper sleeves arranged in one or more combustion chambers C may be provided and the heat supply to each combustion chamber may be separately controlled. Combustion gases may be withdrawn from the upper combustion chamber C through the passage C<1> and supplied to the sleeves through passages A<1>, A<2> shielded by baffles A<3>. The sleeves A, Ax may be of different diameters provided that their openings A<4> are fitted by the heads T. Specifications 397,640 and 414,428 are referred to.
