Abstract

395,983. Tunnel kilns. GIBBONS BROS., Ltd. and GIBBONS, W. E., Dibdale Works, Dudley, Worcestershire. Feb. 17, 1933, No. 4864. [Class 51 (ii).] In a kiln having a muffle-heated high temperature zone, from which the products of combustion pass through ports 20 into the preheating-zone 16, the combustion products are cooled before they enter the tunnel by the addition of air supplied through nozzles 19. The burners 15 are inclined to direct the heating- gases towards the ports 20, and the walls 12 separating the combustion chambers from the tunnel are made hollow to allow circulation of the tunnel atmosphere. The air supplied to the burners and the nozzles 19 may be heated in passages 26 in the walls of the cooling-zone. Inspection passages 24 accessible from openings 22 are provided.
