422,985. Muffle furnaces. GIBBONS BROS., Ltd., Dibdale Works, Dudley, Worcestershire.-(Dressler, P. ; c /o Swindell- Dressler Corporation; P.O. Box 1735, Pittsburg, U.S.A.) Jan. 20 1934, No. 2036. [Class 51 (ii)] In a muffle furnace of the kind in which a combustion space or recess 15 at one or each side of the furnace, is bounded towards the muffle chamber 13 by a wall member which is free to expand upwards, the wall member is mounted on a sand bed. As shown in a tunnel furnace, the sand is spread on trough-shaped bricks 18 carried by the side benches 10 of the tunnel, and the wall members are formed by box-like sections 19, and hollow tiles 20 which rest against projections 17 from the roof. The sections 19 and tiles 20 are shaped to overlap laterally, and the openings therein register to form passages 23, through which the atmosphere of the muffle chamber is free to circulate.
