Abstract

547,970. Furnaces. HALES, E. S. July 23, 1941, No. 9305. [Class 51 (ii)] A furnace for the treatment of metals comprises a flue having two or more openings into which crucible pots project one behind the other, cross partitions being provided to form separate compartments which are connected by openings through the partitions, the openings becoming smaller towards the exhaust. The furnace has a sloping back 3 leading to the first compartment containing the pot 14. The flue gases pass on either side of the pot to the opening 12 leading to the second compartment containing the pot 15 from which they pass through the opening 17 to the exhaust flue 18. The furnace is provided with an exhaust flue 21, and a further exhaust 22 is provided between the compartments. The exhaust flues are provided with dampers to vary the heating. Air-inlets 20, 26 are provided.
