Abstract
534,012. Gaseous fuel furnaces. BRAYSHAW FURNACES & TOOLS, Ltd., BRAYSHAW, S. N. NEWMAN, F. C., and RUSHTON, F. July 2, 1940, No. 11146. [Class 51 (i)] A furnace for the heat treatment of metals and alloys heated by producer gas from charcoal is provided with one or more auxiliary sources of heat for heating up the furnace to or above its working temperature. The auxiliary source of heat may be cut off when the desired temperature has been reached or where two auxiliary sources of heat are employed one may be cut off and the other maintained. Fig. 1 shows a furnace provided with a burner of the kind described in Specification 531,238 supplied with producer gas through a pipe A and town gas and air through either of the pipes E', F. The air and gas from the burner nozzle D is directed into a pocket h provided in the wall H to effect mixing and the combustion products pass into the treatment chamber G<SP>1</SP> and thence through a passage g<SP>2</SP> to an upper chamber G<SP>2</SP> from which they escape through an opening g<SP>3</SP> to a flue K where they heat the gas and air supplied to the burner before escaping through the outlet k. Further heat may be employed for heating the air and gas by arranging a burner in a passage K<SP>1</SP> leading to the flue K. The treatment chamber may be externally heated in addition to being heated internally.
