Abstract
476,156. Gas-heating furnaces. NEW ENGINE CO., Ltd., and MALONE, J. F. J. July 7, 1937, No. 18881. [Class 51 (i)] A furnace, more especially for heating gaseous media for use in an engine, has arranged around the periphery of the grate 5 means for supplying air for secondary combustion consisting of an annular space 7, the upper part of which is provided with vanes 9 and directed inwardly so that the air follows a helical path to the outlet flue. A further annular space 11 provided with vanes 13 delivers an insulating layer of inert gases, such as flue gases, over the surface of the furnace walls 2. The walls 2 are lined with curved refractory bricks supported on metal shelves 3 and jointed with a mortar of fireclay. The upper part of the furnace is domed with a central outlet flue for the combustion gases.
