Liquid-fuel furnaces.-In an oil-fired furnace having primary and secondary air supplies to the combustion chamber, the crown of the combustion chamber is curved or vaulted and semicircular in cross-section and forms a large radius. bend with the rear wall of the combustion chamber, the change in direction of the secondary air passage leading into the combustion chamberbeing also produced by a large radius bend. The combustion chamber shown in Fig. 1 is formed' in three sections, a top section A formed as stated above and having an opening a for the reception of the secondary air pipe b, a rear section B and front section C, means such as tongues and grooves being provided in the sections for interlocking them. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the combustion chamber is built up of preformed bricks o, the crown being formed by a single block D supporting bricks q. In both forms of furnace, air is supplied to the combustion chamber from a main t provided with a valve r, the supply to the annular space i of the burner h and to the secondary air pipe b being controlled by a valve k operated by hand or in accordance with the temperature in the furnace.
