Open-hearth furnaces.-A liquid-fuel furnace is made with a primary combustion chamber d separated from the melting-chamber or bath e by a wall or bridge b, which has an inclined face f to deflect the gases from the burner g upwards. Some of the hot gases are conducted by flues i to a heating chamber h beneath the hearth and thence to the end flues j, j'. Other portions are conducted bv short vertical flues k into the chamber m surrounding the vaporizer &c. l, or to outlet flues n regulated by a damper o.
