Abstract
28,477. McCourt, C. D., and Bonecourt Surface Combustion, Ltd. Dec. 10. [Cognate Application, 28,478/12.1 Crucible and muffle furnaces. - Crucibles, muffles, &c. are heated by a mixture of non- vaporized oil and air burnt in a combustion bed of granular refractory material such as described in Specification 29,430/09. Fig. 1 shows a crucible furnace in which oil is delivered by a pipe 7 and air by a pipe 6, the mixture passing at once into and burning in the bed 2 surrounding the crucible 1. The initial heating is effected by burning gas or vapour. The muffle shown in Fig. 2 is similarly heated, the mixture of fuel and air being delivered through a conical aperture 8.
