Crucible furnaces.-A gas-fired furnace of the kind comprising two chambers or crucibles, one of which is heated wholly or partly by the combustion products from the other, is used for the salt-bath treatment of steel. The furnace described has an outer steel casing a, an intermediate asbestos lining b, and a fire-clay body divided into two crucible chambers c, d connected by a flue passage k. The chamber c is heated by burners delivering through passages g, h opening tangentially into the chamber, and the products pass through the flue k to the chamber d and the stack. flue l. Additional heat may be supplied to the second chamber by a burner delivering through the tangential passago m.
