Abstract
799,741. Cremation furnaces. BUIST, H. G. Sept. 17, 1956 [Sept. 15, 1955], No. 26392/55. Class 51 (2). A number of cremation furnaces are interconnected by passages so that the heat generated in one furnace is passed to an adjacent furnace and the passage of heat from one furnace to another is controlled. A number of combustion chambers 4 in a cremation furnace have separate dumper-controlled outlets 7 to a common flue 9. Passages 12 interconnect the chambers 4. A casket is ignited by an oil burner through a hole 15 with the damper 13 open. After the initial ignition, the burner can be closed down, the damper 13 closed and the combustion products used to ignite a second casket in an adjacent chamber. The dampers 13 are interconnected to prevent both the dampers on adjacent furnaces being closed. The combustion products may heat combustion air in their passage to an adjacent furnace.
