Abstract

488,994. Valves. MARSHALL, C. Jan. 14, 1937, No. 1155. [Class 135] [Also in Groups I and XXVIII] A stop valve has associated therewith a fluid-filtering device comprising a cylindrical tube of filtering material (e.g. perforated metal fabric or gauze 16) removably located between inner and outer coaxial perforated sleeves 17, 18, which are detachably secured between flanged end discs 20, 21, means being provided for removably fixing the filter device in position within the valve housing 10. As shown, the means comprise a spring 22 pressed towards the filter by a detachable cover 23. The device is suitable for use in the filtering of steam or liquids at high temperature. The disc 21 has grooves 27 whereby sediment removed by the steam entering through conduit 11 may fall into the space beneath the disc. The valve comprises a head 29 mounted on a spindle 28 which is screwed through a bridge-piece 31 and is provided with an operating handle 30. The material between the sleeves may comprise one or more sheets or blocks of chemical composition or one or more pieces of fibrous fabric in lieu of or in addition to gauze or like metallic material.
