Abstract

486,951. Window frames; draughtexcluders. PEREMI, E., and TOTH, L. Nov. 10, 1936, No. 30703. [Class 20 (iii)] The vertical members of sliding-sash windows are sealed against draughts &c. by metal strips 38, Fig. 2, secured to the frame jambs 2, and provided with flexible tongues 43, 39, which bear against the outer side edges and against opposite faces of the sashes respectively. The tongues 39 press the sashes into contact with parting strips 29 secured to the jambs. The free edges of the flexible tongues are guarded by shoulders 39a, 32 in the metal strips and parting strips, respectively. As shown in Fig. 1, a sealing strip similar to those provided along the vertical members of the window may be secured to the head rail of the fixed frame, the flexible tongues bearing against the top rail of the upper sash. A strip 59 of substantially triangular section and provided with a flexible tongue 66, is secured in a pocket in the lower rail of the upper sash, and the upper rail of the lower sash is formed with a downturned lip 74 which, when the sashes are closed, engages between the flexible tongue 66 and an upturned lip 64 on the adjacent meeting rail. A substantially triangular-shaped strip 18 is also mounted in the sill, a flexible tongue 19 bearing against a bevelled face of the lower rail of the bottom sash to preserve weathertightness.
