Abstract

515,833. Windows. JORSS, K. F. May 10, 1938, No. 13964. [Class 20 (iii)] Double - hung metal 1 windows with separated sliding sashes E. F are draught-proofed at their vertical edges by resilient metal strips K fixed to the parting walls C, between the sash-guiding channels 1, 2. The ends of the strips are curled as shown at 34, such ends being located in channels 18 provided in the hollow sash - stiles 14 and bearing against both walls of the channels. The counter balancing devices P are located in the channels 1, 2 beyond the weather stripping and are connected to the sashes by lateral arms Q fixed to the latter. At the head A and sill B of the window, weathering fins 6,4 are provided, adapted to engage, with sliding contact, U-shaped non-metallic packing strips 35 located in the channelled rails of the respective sashes. The meeting rails of the upper and lower sashes, are provided with similar coacting members 36, 38, inversely arranged, the former of which receives a felt strip 37 upon which the arm 39 of the member 38 bears when the window is closed. A felt pad 44 protected by a metal strip 43 is secured to each of the parting walls C adjacent the ends of the meet;ng rails, to complete the seal. The members of the window and sash frames are respectively jointed by angle-plates and bars at the corners, the angle-bars for the sash-frame members being located in the hollows 19 in the members. A lifting strip 40 is formed on the lower sash-rail 15.
