Abstract

512,588. Doors and windows for buildings. AKTIEBOLAGET GOTAVERKEN, and ANDERSSON, N. May 17, 1938, No. 14763. [Class 20 (iii)] The fixed or moving frame of a hinged door or window construction incorporates an L-shaped member of sheet metal, one leg of which extends perpendicularly to the plane of the door or window, while the other leg covers the gap between the fixed and moving frames, or the gap between two hinged frames. Further, the free edge of this other leg is bent over through at least 180 degrees to provide a strengthened portion for co-operating with the adjacent frame. In the double window construction shown, the window frame is formed of two L-shaped members 2, 4, separated by a layer of heat insulating material 6. The leg 5 of the member 4 has a bent-over edge 9 which co-operates with packing 8 mounted in one of the sash frames 17. This frame is hinged at 28 to the other sash frame 14 which is of L-section and which has a bent-over edge 19 co-operating with packing 8 mounted in the window frame. The frames 2 and 14 are recessed for the passage of the limbs of a hinge 11 by which the sashes are hinged to the window frame. The sash frames are suitably folded to provide shoulders for securing the glass panes 24, the panes being held in position by means of putty or, as shown, by engaging between the shoulders and strips 23 welded to the sash frames. The window is formed with a second pair of sash frames, the gap between the two pairs of frames being covered as shown by the limbs of the L-shaped frame members.
