Abstract
409,747. Casement and fanlight windows; frames. SADD & SONS, Ltd., J., and MANSFIELD, H. J., 9, Wantz Road, Maldon, Essex. Nov. 4, 1932, No. 31188. [Class 20 (iii).] The rabbeted sash and frame of a wooden casement window are arranged to abut at those surfaces of the rabbet lying in a common vertical plane or at the inner vertical face of the sash, or at both points, and have a slight clearance between the edge faces thereof. Further, a groove is provided in the edge of the sash or frame on each side, top, and bottom, of the window structure. In the form shown, the upper and lower sashes 2, 3, are hinged about horizontal and vertical axes respectively. The stepped vertical faces 5 and inner faces 6 of the sashes abut against corresponding faces 7, 8, in the window frame 1 when the sashes are closed, and slight clearances 10 are provided between the edge faces of the sashes and frame. Grooves are provided in the two edge faces 11, 14, of the lower edges of the sashes, and similar grooves are provided in the edge faces of the two vertical sides and on the upper edge 15, 13 of the frame 1 and of the transome 4. Any other arrangement of grooves may be provided as long as there is at least one groove on each side of the sash or frame. Additional grooves 16 and 17 are formed adjacent the bottom of the vertical stepped surfaces of the transome and frame. Further grooves 18, 19, and 20 are also provided, respectively, in the under surfaces of the transome, window sill, and a ledge provided above the upper sash.
