485,038. Converting reciprocating intorotary motion; pistons; crossheads. SARKAR, C. S. March 8, 1937, No. 6819. [Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVI] Pistons and crossheads of engines and pumps are made in two parts, each with projections which come into contact and assist in overcoming deadcentres. The additional turning-effort exerted by the projection 22, Fig. 1, on the projection 10 of the connecting rod is resisted by springs 29 or by fluid pressure. Fig. 15 shows the application to the crosshead of a double-acting engine. Projections 22a, 22b, on the frame 18a carried by the piston-rod, engage projections 10a, 10b on the connecting rod which is attached to the main crosshead 6a. The engaging parts may be off-set axially with regard to the piston, one projection being then carried by a lever connected at its two ends to the two parts of the piston.
