Abstract
570,826. Two-atroke engines. POUNDER, C. C., and REBBECK, SIR F. E. March 25, 1944, No.6575. [Class 7 (ii)] In a two-stroke engine having opposed pistons A, E which are respectively connected to the crank-shaft directly and through one or more secondary cranks or eccentrics, the diameter of the upper piston E is larger than that. of the lower piston by an amount sufficient to ensure that the crank-shaft is lifted in its bearing during each cycle. A double-acting engine is shown in which a piston F having the same diameter as the piston A is connected to operate in unison with the piston E by rods G and by eccentric rods to the crank-shaft. A single-acting engine is also described in which the main piston is articulated through a piston-rod, cross-head and connecting rod to the crank-shaft.
