[Class 142 (iv)] In weaving reversible fabrics for tablelinen &c., with striped designs by rising weft threads of different colours, the healds are arranged in two groups to produce a pattern in the transverse direction, and a change of pattern in the longitudinal direction is obtained by interrupting the sequence of picking without changing the order of shedding. Thus four healds may control the warp threads c, d, e, f, Fig. 6, in the parts 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, Fig. 1, of the fabric, four other healds controlling the warp threads p, q, r, s, Fig. 7, in the other parts 2, 4, 6 of the fabric, the shedding being such that picks g, h, k, m float mainly over the warp threads p, q, r, s and under the warp threads c, d, e, f, whilst picks i, j, n, o float mainly over the warp threads c, d, e, f and under the warp threads p, q, r, s. In weaving the transverse band 11, picks g, h, k, m are inserted by a shuttle carrying say blue weft and picks i, j, n, o by one carrying white weft. Consequently on the face of the fabric blue weft appears mainly at the parts E, G, L and white at the parts D, F, H, the reverse running at the back. On reaching the transverse band 2, the normal sequence of picking two blue followed by two white wefts is interrupted by say picking four blue wefts in succession, after which the normal sequence of picking is resumed. Picks g, h &c. are now inserted by the shuttle carrying white weft and picks i, j &c., by the shuttle carrying blue weft, so that the pattern in the band 12 is the reverse of that in the band 11. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to the use of more than two series of four healds and to a third weft. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
