512,578. Elastic fabrics. WYLDE, J. R., and SWIFT, H. A. March 15, 1938, No. 7970. [Class 142 (iv)] Fabrics with a puckered effect comprise inelastic warp and weft threads 1, 2 and elastic wefts 4 woven so as to appear mainly on the rear face of the fabric, which may be used for bathing costumes. Elastic warp threads 3 appearing mainly on the rear face may also be used. Thus an 8 shaft satin fabric may have additional elastic warp threads, whilst some of the inelastic threads of the weave are replaced by elastic threads. These may be inserted in an extended condition either by being woven under tension, or by reason of size &c. applied to them whilst under tension. When the size is removed &c. the fabric puckers. It may be woven in a two box loom, which is stopped for replenishment of the shuttle carrying elastic weft when the other shuttle is weaving. The fabric may be printed whilst in an extended condition.
