Abstract

918,776. Shuttleless looms; forming selvedges. SULZER FRERES S.A. June 16, 1959 [June 27, 1958], No. 20675/59. Classes 142 (2) and 142 (4). In a loom weaving two fabrics 19, 21 side by side with a common weft 18, the weft at each selvedge is sometimes cut close to the edge of the fabric and sometimes cut away from the edge and tucked in. The gap between the fabrics is such that when the weft is cut at the edge of one fabric, it is the correct length for tucking into the other fabric. Two pairs of shears a, b, operating in any desired sequence, are provided at the input and output sides of the loom; or the output side may have shears at position a only, the correct length for tucking in being obtained by drawing back the weft after insertion. There may be two pairs of shears between the fabrics, or one pair may be shogged from position c to position d. The edge warp threads may be closed or partly crossed early, or may be leno woven as described in Specification 657,421, to prevent the cut ends of weft from springing back into the shed.
