A selvedge (Figs. 1 and 4) is woven with a gap 19 between leno woven threads 4, 9,the projecting weft end is tucked into the following shed over only a portion of its length and the selvedge is then severed from the fabric at the gap 19. Various leno weaves are described. A tucking-in needle 13 (Fig. 4) moves under the cloth along a path 15 until it has passed the leno threads 9, it then moves along the warps in a path 15a until it deflects upwardly the lower threads of the shed, it then moves along the path 15b, thus entering the "selvedge" shed, it then moves nearer the fell along a path 15c and is presented with the weft end, it then retracts along the path 15e leaving the shed where the paths 15a, 15e cross. In Figs. 5 and 6 a temple with inclined rollers 23 has a cover 26 against which the warp rests, having a notch 28 which causes some selvedge threads to form a higher shed 36a. The tucking-in needle then enters the shed, from underneath, under the threads 1, 5a and over the threads 5 (Fig. 6) so that, as it retracts, only a portion of the weft is tucked in.
